Michel Robert: lunge training

To move from the stable to the ridden work, I relax my horses for at least a quarter of an hour, twenty minutes.

This preparatory phase can be completed by a free relax session in a small space, such as the indoor riding hall or a ring.

In the preparation training on the lunge I mainly look for the connection with the horse caring in particular for a certain control of the gaits. During this preparatory phase it is necessary to consider the personality of each horse. Some horses, for example, need to alternate moments of concentration with moments of relaxation.

I also often look for the extension of the neck so that the horse relaxes and works well with the back muscles.

Finally, relaxation should make the horse receptive, available and physically ready (warm-up) for the ridden work.
